1 / SETUP
Randomly arrange the 24 Island tiles on the table. Each tile must touch at least 2 other tiles.
- Create three separate stacks of cards, one with the Treasure cards, another with Legend cards and the third with Location cards.
- Deal each player 3 Reward cards: 2 Treasure cards and 1 Legend card at random.
- Deal each player 3 Place cards. Put the rest aside as a draw pile.
- Each player places their 3 Reward cards under each of their 3 Location cards.
- Draw 2 Postcards at random, and place them face up on the table.
- Make a stock of Gold Coin and Legend Coin tokens.
EACH PLAYER RECEIVES:
- 4 Boat chips of their color
- 4 Clue tokens.
- 4 Position Fire tokens.
2 / GAME TURN
A game turn is played in two phases: a Search phase and a Resolution phase. Game turns are played like so until the end of the game.
SEARCH PHASE:- Select an Island card and its Reward card among the three you own.
- All players (in any order) place one of their Clue tokens on one of the face-up Postcards.
They point (with the pointy end of the Clue) at an element of one of the postcards to have people guess the Island their Treasure is on. Clue tokens are the only indication that can be given for other people to guess the correct island.
- As soon as you have placed your Hint token, you can place up to two Exploration Boat chips (sail side up). The Exploration Boats show your color on the sail side, and the color of the player you want to investigate on the hull side. If two players or more choose to search the same island, pile up the boats in sequence.
RESOLUTION PHASE:
- Once the players have placed all the boats they want, the boat piles are flipped over and resolved in order (first to arrive is the first to resolve). Players check if the (Explorer) player has found the island the opponent (Guardian) was pointing at with their hint.
• If 1 Explorer discovers the correct island, the Guardian reveals their Place card and its linked Reward card. Both players gain 2 Gold coins, and 1 additional Legend coin if the card is a Legend card.
• If two or more Explorers discover the correct island: the player who has landed first takes 2 Gold coins, and the remaining players gain 1 coin. The Guardian takes 3 Gold coins. If it was a Legend card, everyone gets 1 additional Legend coin.
• If an Explorer chooses the wrong island, neither them nor the Guardian take any coins. If the Guardian's island touches the tile the Explorer has sailed to, the Guardian may put a Postion Fire token on the tile the Explorer landed on.
- Guardians whose islands have been discovered flip over the matching Island tiles. They take their Clue token(s), and discard the Place and Reward cards. If they have none of them, they draw a new Reward and Place. Other Guardians let their Hint token(s) where they are and will use another from their stock.
- Draw a new Postcard. No more than 3 Postcards can be active at the same time: if a fourth would be added, remove the oldest Postcard, giving Hint tokens on it back to their owners.
- Randomly arrange the 24 Island tiles on the table.
3 / END OF THE GAME
- At the end of a Resolution phase, if one or more players total 12 coins or more, the game is over.
- Each players sums their coins up. The player with the most coins wins (Legend and Gold are worth the same).
- In case of a tie, the player with the most Legend coins wins. If the tie persists, both tied players win.
